Sixty miles per hour down a long steep ramp, head first, flying the length of a football field – Ski Jumping is the original extreme sport. It is also the only winter sport in the Olympics without an event for women. For now!
THE FILM
FLYgirls is the story of 6 ski jumpers from Park City. Utah. These young women have been jumping for most of their lives and are arguably the best team in the world. The film follows the girls’ lives and athletic regimen for a period of close to three years and chronicles their quest for Olympic acceptance throughout their trials and tribulations with the International Olympic Committee. Poised to make history as the first group of women ski jumpers to be allowed to compete in the Olympics, they continue to be denied a place in the 2010 Vancouver games. Conquering the jump is nothing for these proud strong athletes compared to conquering international sexism.
